DRUG STORE ROCK & ROLL PRESENTS! DEKE DICKERSON AND HOWLIN' HURD
doors at 7 / show 8pm
DEKE DICKERSON Deke Dickerson is a national roots-rock treasure. From his early days with surf-garage legends The Untamed Youth, to rockabilly and country with his groups Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics and Deke and the Whippersnappers, Dickerson has been leading the charge for America’s forgotten cult music genres his entire adult life. Recently, he has been performing solo shows, showcasing not only songs from every act he’s been associated with, but also telling stories from many of the famous and not-so-famous musicians and entertainers he has worked with throughout his career. Don’t expect a sleepy singer-songwriter show, Dickerson leaps off the chair to perform rowdy classics like Warren Smith’s rockabilly opus “Uranium Rock” and the 13th Floor Elevators garage classic “You’re Gonna Miss Me” at these solo shows.
HOWLIN' HURD Brian Hurd is an American blues singer, songwriter, harmonica player and guitarist originally from St. Louis, Missouri and currently residing in New York City. Over the last decade he’s amassed a cult-like following all his own as the frontman and namesake behind Brooklyns infamous Rhythm & Blues keepers of the flame, Daddy Long Legs. As Howlin' Hurd, Daddy Long Legs frontman steps out on his own with a houserocking set of electrified country blues to make your big toe shoot up in your boot. A Howlin’ Hurd show is equal parts roots rock, blues and guttural soul, stripping down old standards and making them shiny and new again. Some of the originals are like an all-out spiritual revival, while others are hauntingly beautiful. Howlin’ Hurd is endorsed by Hohner harmonicas.
