About this Event
What does it take for a body of work to come into being? For Dee Smart, the answer lies in spending time with a place until it begins to reveal itself. During an extended painting expedition to Coffin Bay, she filled sketchbooks, gathered impressions and became captivated by the ecology of the shoreline. The Razor fish, whose role in the regeneration of the bay, became a touchstone for the exhibition.
"The Razor fish is the most unusual of creatures—it provides a platform for its own mini ecosystem to flourish; Mother Nature has provided a life raft for the annihilated native oysters' ecosystem to regenerate, along with other sea life—mussel, octopus, seaweeds.
