In April 1927, John Carter, a black man was falsely accused of assaulting a white woman and her child. Carter was shot, hanged, and burned in what is thought to be Arkansas’s last recorded terror lynching.
A historic marker will be installed near the site of the lynching and a community-engaged soil sample will be collected and housed at the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Visitor Center for historical purposes.
