SAVE THE DATE!!!
A roadside historic marker, installed as part of the William G. Pomeroy Foundation / Empire State Society Sons of the American Revolution “Patriot Burials” program, will be dedicated to honor Revolutionary War veterans buried at the Riverside Cemetery on Route 11 in Kirkwood, Broome County on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
THE CEREMONY…
The ceremony will begin at 11:00 at Riverside Cemetery, 2267 US-11 in Kirkwood. It should run ~35-40 minutes. The public is welcome to attend. We will have an Honor Guard, a three-volley salute, a playing of Taps and a display of period flags at the event. We will also have several living historian attendees in period dress / uniform and a display of period artifacts & reproductions.
THE PROGRAM…
Our keynote speaker will be Kirkwood Town Historian Karen Ferguson.
PATRIOTS AT RIVERSIDE CEMETERY...
There at least two patriots buried at Riverside Cemetery, including:
Joseph Thomas (1761-1831)
Hon. John Conklin (1756-1846)
Both served in the NY State Line as Artillery Artificers under Lt. Col. Luther Baldwin.
