We’ve all seen the ads for DNA tests on television, but genetic genealogy is far more than a way to learn about your ethnic background. Researchers and detectives are using this powerful tool to solve mysteries and make discoveries that were not possible even 10 years ago. Join us at the Main Library at Goodwood on Saturday, August 17 at 10 a.m. for a day-long symposium on this emerging field of research. Speakers will include Shayna Landry and Malcolm Alexander. Landry discovered the identity of her birth father using genetic genealogy and has since devoted her career to helping others do the same. Her work was featured on the Netflix series I Just Killed My Dad. Alexander is a man who was wrongly sentenced to prison in Jefferson Parish for a crime he did not commit and was later exonerated by genetic science. Come hear their fascinating stories!
