Join wildlife presenter and ornithologist Evie Ember as she explores the latest research into avian communication, cognition and music. Using fascinating scientific studies alongside observations from her own parrots, Rumi, Yoshi and Cosmos (with Yoshi more famously known online as the viral “Operabird”), Evie will unpack how birds learn to sing, mimic sounds and communicate with one another. Discover why birds sing, how parrots acquire their remarkable vocal abilities through social learning, the incredible biology of the syrinx, why birds seem to like “human music” and what recent research is revealing about how technology is opening new possibilities for understanding and communicating with our avian companions. About Evie Ember
Evie Ember is an Australian wildlife educator, performer and content creator who has built a large international audience through her viral educational and musical content featuring her parrots Rumi, Yoshi & Cosmos (@rumi.the.ringneck).
Her bird Yoshi, affectionately known online as “The Operabird”, became a viral sensation after captivating millions worldwide with her operatic-style singing and remarkable vocal mimicry, alongside Evie’s own background as a professional singer and performer. Their unique bond and shared love of music have inspired audiences around the world, showcasing the incredible connection possible between humans and their avian companions.
With years of professional experience as a wildlife presenter, a background in musical theatre and live performance, and a postgraduate diploma in Ornithology, Evie specialises in making avian behaviour, enrichment and communication science engaging and accessible for everyone.
