PRESENTED BY MELBOURNE RECITAL CENTRE & DECIBEL NEW MUSIC ENSEMBLERevolution is a concert dedicated to the vinyl record – as a sound source, musical instrument and score. Decibel’s performance in Primrose Potter Salon features works which engage both turntable and vinyl records as sources of musical material in a chamber music setting. It goes beyond the turntable as a machine, and the vinyl record as a container for a complete, recorded piece of music.
Since the invention of the gramophone in the late nineteenth century, composers have experimented with using the player and records in their music as instruments, scores and sound materials.
This program presents a range of historic and recent works including pieces by Milan Knížák, John Cage, Cat Hope, Lindsay Vickey, Annika Moses, Chris De Groot and The Velvet Underground.

ABOUT DECIBEL
Decibel are a new music ensemble that focus on the integration of acoustic and electronic instruments in chamber music performance, founded in WA in 2009, and now residing between Perth and Melbourne.
Decibel are world leading interpreters of graphic notations and pioneer digital score formats for composition and performance. This includes the ongoing development of the Decibel Score Player, an iPad application for the coordinated reading of graphic notation.
Whilst rooted in the western art music tradition, Decibel aim to remove stylistic boundaries in their commissioning and performance approaches. They have commissioned over 90 new works since their inception, and have released 6 released recordings to date, the most recent being the 2022 release 'Cat Hope - Decibel' on the Swiss label Ezz- Thetics.
