This month we will be discussing Transmutation, the art of change.
In art, "transmutation" refers to the process of conversion, where one form, material, or concept is changed into something else, often with a symbolic or metaphorical meaning. This can involve various aspects:
• Material Transformation: The artist might take one medium or material and alter it into a completely different form, like turning clay into a sculpture, metal into a kinetic piece, or using unconventional materials to create something unique.
• Conceptual Transformation: Transmutation can also refer to how an artist explores shifting ideas, themes, or messages, transforming a simple subject or concept into something profound or complex. For example, turning everyday objects into symbolic representations that challenge traditional perceptions.
This conversation will be led by local ceramicist Jacob Scott.
