Dear Miss Perkins: An Evening with Frances Perkins
Come join us for an unforgettable evening at The Whittemore House as we delve into the life and legacy of Frances Perkins. Learn about her groundbreaking work as the first female U.S. Cabinet member and her tireless efforts to improve labor conditions in the early 20th century. This in-person event promises to be both educational and inspirational!
Join us for an evening with Rebecca Brenner Graham, author of Dear Miss Perkins: A Story of Frances Perkins’s Efforts to Aid Refugees from Nazi Germany (Kensington, 2025).
Perkins, best known as the first woman to serve in a presidential cabinet and an architect of the New Deal, also quietly fought to save lives amid powerful opposition during the 1930s and 1940s. Rebecca, a former intern with the National Women’s Foundation and a postdoctoral research associate at Brown University, will discuss her extensively researched book, which uncovers the untold story of Frances Perkins’s courageous efforts to aid Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany.
The evening will feature an author presentation, Q&A, and a book signing. Guests will also have the unique opportunity to visit the Eleanor Roosevelt Library, which houses Frances Perkins’ personal desk. Cash bar and light appetizers available.
