About this Event
Dead Street School Ghost Hunt
Known formerly as Dead Street until the name changed to Queen Street in honour of Queen Victoria's jubilee."The first school on the site was founded in 1810 in an old malt house on the street, which burnt down. The Victorian Monitorial schoolroom (built 1837) is now the only one left in the world. William Fitch was the first and only Headmaster to live in the Headmaster’s House from when he built itin 1857 to his death in 1902. The schools basement originally intended as a boiler room was used as a shelter during WWII"This is a must do location as rarely investigated. This is a multi layered site, initially it was the poorest part of Hitchin and suffered plague, pestilence and fire. Can you work through the happiness and energy of the kids to the history below?
