This two hour guided tour explores some of women's stories which connect to one of the oldest burial sites in Belfast
About this Event

If you've ever wondered about how the women of Belfast were connected to this ancient graveyard which is hidden behind high walls, this is your chance to find out.

Thought to be one of Belfast's oldest Christian burial ground, Friars Bush has a wealth of women's stories waiting to be told. From the anecdotes of their involvement in the burial and funeral process to the stories of women with loved ones buried here.

On this tour you'll hear about:

The woman who wrote over forty novels during a fifty year writing career

The woman who sat on her husbands grave to stop him being exhumed

The women who were paid to lament over the dead in Ancient Ireland

And many others!

The stories of the women connected to Friars Bush Graveyard remind us that history is made not only by wealthy businessmen and merchants but also by their sisters, wives and daughters.

Your guide Emma Casey is a qualified Tour Guide and a member of Tour Guides NI
