About this Event

Training Description

The training provides an overview of de-escalation skills. Participants will gain a greater understanding of how conflict works, why it happens, and practical skills and steps we can use to address conflict using an informative, interactive, and fun process. The aim is to improve our capacity to listen without defensiveness, speak without offending, and de-escalate anger.

Training Objectives

● Investigate the way that stress increases our potential for anger and reactivity

● Understand the physiology of anger

● Learn and practice techniques for de-escalating anger and conflict with role plays and real life examples

Presenter

Stacy Hughes has been a mediator since 2009, with experience in community, family, and workplace disputes, as well as small claims and unlawful detainer courts, divorce mediation, organizational conflict, and political and large-scale conflict resolution. He works extensively with the Conflict Resolution Center of Santa Cruz County and the Mandell-Gisnet Center for Conflict Management and Restorative Justice Partners, Inc., in Monterey County. In addition, he is a trainer and consultant in conflict resolution and a facilitator with the Alternatives to Violence Project. Stacy is also involved in US-Japan grassroots education initiatives and has a long history of working with and in Japan. He holds an MA from the University of Basel, Switzerland, and has traveled to 85 countries.
