de/composition 1.2: Native Trees, Sonic Roots
About this Event
The preeminent Philadelphia Sound Designer and Music Experimentalist June Lopez will return to artistically lead de/composition 1.2: Native Trees, Sonic Roots, a set of genre-defying music and experimental soundscapes inspired by found sounds in Tookany/Tacony-Frankford (TTF) Watershed and Tacony Creek Park.
Inspired by the ongoing field recordings and audio research with the trees and other elements from the watershed, de/composition 1.2: Native Trees, Sonic Roots will be build on the project's debut performance from earlier this summer.
June will again be in collaboration with the video projection team of Samara Talkin and Neil Cippon, who will immerse the venue space in projections of collected images and footage of the watershed and nature in synchronization with the music and sound.
(WARNING: Intense lighting will be used during this show. It will not be safe for those with epilepsy and other conditions with sensitivity to light.)
Special guest narrator and our “in-house science dramaturg”, Dr. Jame McCray will return and further illuminate audiences with narratives from the watershed.
In addition, special guest performers will join the team to add fresh layers and textures to the soundscape in order to widen the scope of de/composition towards a truly holistic immersion in our neighborhood and city's natural and cultural ecosystem.
This unique site specific event will again be hosted at Bennett Compost, adjacent to Tacony Creek Park.
This event is supported by a grant from TreePhilly, a Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Program; PHMC, and William Penn Foundation.
TreePhilly is a program of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy, sponsored by TD Bank. We help Philadelphia residents plant and care for trees.
Additional support provided by our friends at Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership.
