About this Event

DCU Challenge Accepted: A Collaborative Showcase of Challenge-Based Learning

DCU Challenge Accepted is a two-day celebration of innovative teaching and real-world learning through Challenge-Based Learning (CBL).

At DCU, CBL is defined as a process of collaborative engagement with peers, academics, and stakeholders to develop solutions to real-world social, technological, environmental and economic challenges of urgency and significance. It is a distinctively learner-driven pedagogy where learners, with the support of academics, define the dimensions of the challenge to be worked on and acquire the knowledge and skills needed to propose meaningful solutions.

On Day One (12th May), hear firsthand from the innovative educators shaping CBL across DCU's five faculties and a keynote address from Dr Sílvia Blanch Gelabert, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, offering an international perspective on the evolving landscape of Challenge-Based Learning. The day also allows for networking opportunities to connect with colleagues working at the forefront of this approach.

On Day Two (13th May), join us for practical workshops on integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and AI into your own CBL practice.

Event Highlights

  • Inspiring insights and perspectives from CBL practitioners across DCU
  • Practical examples of CBL implementation across diverse disciplines
  • Keynote address from an international CBL expert
  • Networking opportunities with educators, students, and challenge partners
  • Practical workshops on ESD and GenAI in CBL (Day Two)

This event is co-hosted by DCU Futures and the DCU Teaching Enhancement Unit, with input from partners in the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU).

Attendance is open for both days or either individual day — join us for as much as your schedule allows.
