About this Event
The concert, Vox Eterna, is inspired by a new professional relationship I struck up last year with the amazing American tenor, Metropolitan Opera emeritus Stanford Olsen, as well as the work of a great friend of the festival and one of Louisville's legendary performers, soprano Emily Albrink-Katz. As part of my degree at the University of Michigan, I had the honor and privilege of taking voice lessons with Stanford, an incredible artist who has sung at the Metropolitan Opera 160 times and recorded and toured with the likes of the great conductors of the past such as Robert Shaw and Seiji Ozawa. We struck up a friendship, and when I asked him if he'd ever be willing to come, he immediately said yes.
Emily, already a festival veteran, had spoken to me in the past about the possibility of offering more art-song as part of what we do. Having the intersection of these two amazing artists interested in us, I knew we had to bring them together. Much like our concert last spring, which featured Louisvsille legendary cellist Ben Sollee and the amazing genre-bending cellist Mike Block, we love bringing the best of Louisville the nation and the world together, doing what we can to show that Louisville is a destination for great music. We are also proud to feature our Principal Horn Jon Gustley, Louisville-born pianist Raphael Chou, and the Derby City Sinfonietta, conducted by yours truly, in a concert of song with piano and strings. Featuring some of the best repertoire old and new, featuring -
Lieder by Franz Schubert and more, with Raphael Chou, piano
Barber - Adagio for Strings
Jake Heggie - Selections from "Into the Fire" for Strings and Soprano, featuring Emily Albrink-Katz
Benjamin Britten - Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, featuring Stanford Olsen, tenor, Jon Gustley, hornand more...
all these with the Derby City Sinfonietta, Nicholas Finch, conductor
Please join us in this celebration of eternal song with some incredible artists, the best of Louisville, the nation, and the world.
