If you're a writer navigating the often arduous experience of publishing, this event is for you. The DC Writers' Salon A&A Q&A (agent & author question & answer) series provides writers with opportunities to hear from experienced folks on different facets of the publishing world.

This summer, we're featuring Sam Ashworth. Sam's first novel, "The Death and Life of August Sweeney," was published by Santa Fe Writers' Project in 2025 and longlisted for the Dzanc Prize for fiction. The Washington Post wrote: “Like an excellent meal, the memory of Ashworth’s debut novel will linger after it’s finished. It deserves to be savored.”
Sam is a regular contributor of feature pieces to national publications, and his journalism, fiction, and criticism have appeared in the Atlantic, the Washington Post, Eater, Longreads, Elemental, Gawker, Barrelhouse, Catapult, and others. Sam wrote the semi-regular "Dispatches from the Swamp" column for The Rumpus, his travel writing has appeared in Roads and Kingdoms, and he's been featured on Slate’s Death, Sex, and Money podcast, Christopher Kimball's Milk Street Radio Show and the PathPod medical podcast. As an NYT-bestselling ghostwriter, Sam has worked with a wide range of clients, from politicians and CEOs to legal experts and entrepreneurs. Sam is a professor of Creative Writing at George Washington University, where he created a class called The Working Writer, and is an assistant fiction editor at Barrelhouse Magazine.

Based in Dupont, the DC Writers' Salon is a studio and community for writers. The Salon helps us make space and time for what we love to do: write. But more than that, it invites us to engage with the otherwise solo, and sometimes grueling, process of writing in a way that's more connected and accountable. Learn more at DCWritersSalon.com.
