Join DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. for an unforgettable evening celebrating the people, performances, and traditions that have shaped Washington's rich musical legacy.
Featuring acclaimed keyboardist Kim Jordan, honoring renowned saxophonist, educator, and cultural leader Paul Carr, and celebrating the enduring legacies of Baba Lusana Mack, Gil Scott-Heron, and Dr. Ron McNair, this special gathering brings together legendary artists, emerging stewards, scholars, and community leaders for an evening of music, memory, and cultural stewardship.
The program includes live performances by members of DC Legendary Musicians, intergenerational artistic collaborations, and a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring noted ethnomusicologist Professor Saïs Kamalidiinc,Dr. Maya Cunningham of American University, Pastor William H. Lamar, IV of Metropolitan AME and other distinguished guests exploring music as cultural memory, artistic lineage, and community resilience.
Held in the stunning Penthouse of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, Legacy Rising celebrates the past while investing in the future, highlighting the artists, educators, and cultural visionaries whose contributions continue to inspire generations. Also celebrating the inauguration of Second Sundays: Sound, Silence and Sanctuary, a reoccuring monthly event.
