Honor Native American Heritage Month with Galen Gritts as he shares personal experiences of being Native and living in St. Louis. The greater St. Louis area is on the traditional ancestral territory of several Indigenous tribes including the Chickasaw Nation, illini Tribe, Ioway Tribe, Kickapoo Tribe, Osage Nation, Otoe-Missouria Tribe, and Quapaw Nation. Despite these deep Native roots, Missouri has no federally recognized tribes residing within its borders today. As a result, both the history of Native peoples and the lived experiences of contemporary Native American can feel distant or disconnected from public awareness. Through his presentation, Gritts aims to bridge that gap and uncover compelling and often overlooked stories.
