Daydreaming in Spanglish: Spoken Word Poetry Showcase by Raquel Polanco

Arciniega Street Productions is proud to present RAQUEL POLANCO in her latest poetry and spoken word showcase, DAYDREAMING IN SPANGLISH.

This intimate show is inspired by and named after Raquel’s latest published collection of poetry, , which centers around the feeling of losing and finding home, building belonging, and exploring family, identity, and the art of code-switching between first and second languages.

Raquel Polanco is a Hispanic-American poet in her late twenties who is continually inspired by God, the human experience, and castles made of sand. Born to Dominican-Honduran parents, her understanding of self is deeply connected with her understanding of cultural and familial traditions. Her first published work, Daydreaming in Spanglish, explores themes of identity, home, shadow work, and the intricate relationship between food and culture. Stories passed down via oral tradition live at the center of her poetry and storytelling practice. When she isn’t writing, Raquel spends her time daydreaming, exploring the outdoors with her pup Zuko, or in her hammock tuning into the earth’s heartbeat. Poetry is, for her, the sacred path towards healing, empathy, and genuine connection.
