Wetlands close to Currant Creek Reservoir
Help us check off the last survey sites of the season! This day is reserved for any unfinished survey sites or areas we think need a little more exploration or survey effort! Meet at Hogle Zoo main entrance at 7:45AM. Look for Hogle Zoo staff waiting for you there.
Transportation
Depart from Utah's Hogle Zoo. Ride in Zoo vehicle. Leave your car in our main guest lot. Drive is around 2 hrs from the Zoo.
How to get to Zoo parking: Head east on Sunnyside Ave and turn right into the main entrance. Park anywhere in the main lot. Walk to the front gate ticket office with your gear to find Zoo staff waiting for you.
Difficulty
5/10. We will be visiting any sites we did not finish earlier in the season or places that need a bit more exploration. Difficulty may vary depending on where these surveys end up being. Prep for an up to 2 mile hike and a full day of walking off-trail through desne vegetation(willows, tall grasses) and uneven forest terrain.
Difficulty rating 1-10:
1 - easy, little elevation gain, on-trail, short distance hiking
10 - hard, significant elevation gain, uneven terrain, off-trail, dense vegetation, long distance hiking
What to bring/wear
Comfortable hiking clothes and close-toed shoes you don't mind getting dirty/wet (lightweight hiking pants/work pants recommended over shorts). A daypack with a packed lunch, snacks, water (minimum 64oz recommended), sun protection (hat, glasses), rain jacket (rain pants if you have them), warm layers if needed, extra socks (keep these in your backpack). Water/rain boots or waders are recommended but not required (your feet are likely to get wet). Some prefer to wear lightweight long sleeve shirts to protect them from getting scratched by vegetation. You may also want comfortable dry shoes to change into at the end of the day.
