What is Día de los Muertos?
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican tradition celebrated around November 1st and 2nd. It's a joyful way to remember and honour loved ones who have passed. Families create ofrendas (altars) with marigolds, candles, favourite foods, and photographs, believing that the spirits of the departed return to visit during this time. Rather than mourning, the celebration is full of colour, music, laughter, and love, a reminder that those we cherish live on through memory and community. The calavera (decorated skull) is one of its most iconic symbols, representing the celebration of life itself.
