Step into a world of colour, pattern and playful sculpture in this hands-on Seedlings workshop inspired by the vibrant tradition of DΓa de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
DΓa de los Muertos is a Mexican celebration held around 1st and 2nd November. It is a time for families and communities to remember and honour loved ones who have died.
One of the recognisable symbols of the celebration is the 'calavera', or decorated skull. Traditional sugar skulls are brightly decorated with intricate patterns, flowers and colourful details. Rather than being spooky, the skulls can represent the cycle of life and are used as joyful symbols of remembrance.
π¨ What will we make?
Young artists will start by moulding their own skull from air-drying clay, exploring shape, texture and 3D form. Once their sculpture has taken shape, they'll get to the really fun part β decorating! π Using paints and pens, children will experiment with:
πΈ Repeating patterns
π Flowers and botanical-inspired details
π Swirls, dots and decorative shapes
π¨ Bright, contrasting colours
β¨ Fine-line details and imaginative designs
The finished piece will become a colourful ornamental clay skull to take home and proudly display.
No previous art experience needed β just come ready to get creative!
β¨ All materials provided.
π Snacks & juice will be provided in a short break
