DAVY VAN DER MERWE paintings exhibition

For some, creative expression is an outlet. For me, it has become more of a compulsion as I have grown older. The faces staring back at me in my mixed media pieces are fragments of my dreams, as deeply layered and textured as sleep itself. By actualising and anthropomorphising them, I give them a life beyond the ephemeral place they hold in my subconscious, releasing them from their occluded, shrouded existences. In doing so, I release the hold they have on me, too, and can forget my unconscious meetings with them.
