About this Event
David Hobbes:
“I aspire to being madly authentic,” singer-songwriter David Hobbes says. On his forthcoming debut album, Searching for a Home, his songwriting is by turns tender and clever, often within the same song.
Joshua Pickard of Beats Per Minute writes, “Tender, wry, and spiked with a desire to evolve, his songs address love, regret, joy, and all the other impossibly chaotic things we experience, embracing the messiness inherent to personal relationships and just trying to survive without stumbling each day. He layers jangling bits of pop music alongside an intimate folksiness, whittling it all away until there’s nothing left but truth and genuine sensation and the need for companionship.”
In the stories of his songs, you can hear his evolution as a songwriter and a human being. He doesn’t pretend he had the answers all along. In his debut album, it’s apparent that Hobbes doesn’t just aspire to authenticity so much as he can’t escape it.
Ruby Lee Hill:
Growing up between the shores of South Carolina and the peaks of North Carolina, Ruby Lee Hill embodies the essence of traditional Americana and the timeless allure of classic country music. With her weathered Martin guitar cradled in her hands and a harmonica resting upon her neck, she effortlessly transitions between folk, swing, and even Spanish tunes, transporting listeners to lands south of the border.
Ruby's rich, soulful voice sets her apart, infusing her original songs with raw emotion and undeniable depth. Now rooted in the Bay Area, she recently recorded her debut album at Tiny Telephone Oakland, with her first single already making waves on streaming platforms like Spotify. Joining her for this live performance is bandmate and debut EP co-producer, Winston Moody, adding layers of lap steel and electric guitar to their captivating performance.
Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door general admission; $15 for students with ID. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.
