Saxophonist Dave O'Higgins has occupied the upper echelons of the jazz establishment for many years, and has not visited the club since 2015. His CV is ridiculously impressive, including work in the UK with Jason Rebello and Jim Mullen and albums with US players including Joey Calderazzo, Joe Locke, Adam Nussbaum, Dave Kikowski and many more. Back in 1992 he even played a week at the Albert Hall with Frank Sinatra. More recently he's been working with the Brubeck brothers in Brubecks Play Brubeck, and has released a couple of twin-tenor front-line CDs alongside New York sax star Eric Alexander. Don't miss this rare Bristol appearance from one of the UK's very best players.
Trumpeter Andy Hague has been a fixture on the Bristol scene for many years and is well known both for his jazz education activities and for running the club alongside a varied performance schedule.
Pianist Jim Blomfield is of course one of the mainstays of Bristol's jazz scene. He has backed countless big name guest soloists and released two albums of his own music which blend jazz with electronica and contemporary music influences. He is also well known as one of the UK's finest salsa pianists and appears in many Latin ensembles, including recently guesting with the legendary Roberto Pla at London's Pizza Express.
Bassist Henrik Jensen moved from Denmark to London in 1997 and is a graduate of the Royal Academy. He has toured the world from Tokyo to Moscow with various modern jazz projects and also as part of the band for close harmony group The Puppini Sisters. Henrik leads his own quartet Followed By Thirteen and has also previously appeared at the club with Steve Banks Quintet and Double Standards.
Drummer Mark Whitlam is one of the busiest musicians in Bristol - he is a senior lecturer for BIMM music college, has performed with Andy Sheppard's Hotel Bristol, co-leads and composes for jazz/neo-soul band We Are Leif, and before lockdown was playing increasingly frequently with Iain Ballamy.
