Lexington is lucky to have several organizations advancing jazz and improvised music. For this show, Origins Jazz Series is excited to be teaming up with our friends at Outside the Spotlight Jazz & Improvised Music Series, who have presented hundreds of shows across Lexington in the past decade.
We’re also excited to be bringing back dynamic drummer Dave King of the Bad Plus and ultra creative saxophonist Chris Weller in a duo setting. The two are longtime midwestern collaborators and bring a uniquely texture-based approach to improvisation.
Opening for the duo is Eli Winter and his trio featuring Sam Wagster on pedal steel and Tyler Damon on drums. The group combines influences from Appalachian and Southern musical styles with avant garde jazz techniques.

Will you be in to this?
Each of these two sets will be very different, but we think they’ll compliment each other well. Eli Winter & his trio will start the show with something more folk-oriented than Origins typical shows. Think of it along the lines of a grittier Bill Frisell. With Dave King & Chris Weller, you can expect some boundary-pushing and propulsive sonic landscapes that will envelope you in surrealist imagery.
