Community event centered in Dominican women, memories, and cultural superstition; exploring the connections between migration and the current salt trading landscape between the United States and the Dominican Republic.
Let’s spend time together, to slow down, reflect, and celebrate women’s contributions to generational migration, through photographs, visual archives, and a short film, we’ll learn and reflect about persistence, self-determination, and the meaning of family reunification– stories that connect us all!

Artist Bio

L.K. Mata Cuevas is a Dominican American photojournalist and researcher exploring gender, migration, and social issues. Her practiced engages with Caribbean and Latin American culture abroad and within the United States and holds a strong interest in travel and environmental journalism. Her work has been exhibited at the Corcoran Museum in the Luther W. Brady Gallery and at the Museo de las Casas Reales in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with her award-winning project “AC Al Azar”.
