About this Event
Come join us at CodeBase for a fun and collaborative workshop exploring how data, sensors, and small-scale AI-accelerated systems can power new kinds of theatre and art.
Co-hosted by Civic Digits, the session is led by David Oxley (Numeriq Ltd) - a creative technologist with experience designing large-scale interactive artworks that combine real-time data, sensors, and responsive systems. The workshop introduces affordable, hands-on tools for creating dynamic, participatory installations and performances.
You’ll experiment with Raspberry Pi 5 devices equipped with AI acceleration, learning how to capture live inputs such as faces, gestures, or emotion, and use them to influence light, sound, or atmosphere. Alongside the practical work, we’ll discuss the creative and ethical implications of audience data in live and interactive experiences.
Whether you’re a theatre-maker, artist, student, or technologist, this is an opportunity to experiment, connect, and imagine new ways to weave digital responsiveness into creative practice.
What you’ll do
- Explore how interactive systems can be built for installation and participatory settings.
- Try out Raspberry Pi-based sensing demos in small groups - from emotion detection to heartbeat-driven lighting.
- Prototype simple data-driven ideas for theatre, installation, or live art.
- Share insights on consent, participation, and the emotional impact of real-time systems.
Who it’s for
Artists, technologists, theatre-makers, and students interested in blending live performance with digital sensing.
No coding experience required - curiosity is enough.
Places are limited - book soon to secure a spot
