Data centers are rapidly reshaping Virginia, and decisions about their development are now reaching communities throughout the Fredericksburg region.

Supporters point to new investment, tax revenue, and the infrastructure required by an increasingly digital economy. Residents have also raised serious questions about electricity and water demand, land use, noise, environmental effects, public costs, transparency, and how much influence communities have over decisions that may shape them for decades.

Fredericksburg’s recent decision on a proposed data center brought these questions into sharper public focus, but the regional conversation is far from over. Data-center development and policy remain active issues in Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George counties, and future proposals or policy changes remain possible throughout the area.

Join the League of Women Voters of the Fredericksburg Area for a free, nonpartisan Community Conversation about what data centers could mean for our region.

The discussion will be guided by University of Mary Washington faculty with relevant expertise. Their role will not be to lecture, correct attendees, or tell the community what conclusion to reach. They will help ground the conversation in reliable information, clarify the complex technology and policy questions involved, and give residents the foundation needed to examine the competing claims, consequences, and tradeoffs for themselves.

This is not another panel where officials and experts speak at the public. It is a facilitated conversation among neighbors. This is a chance to ask questions, share concerns and perspectives, hear from one another, and consider how residents can participate meaningfully in the decisions ahead.

Whether you support data-center development, oppose it, remain undecided, or simply want to understand the issue better, you are welcome.
