Floating effortlessly between hip-hop, neo-soul and R&B, Miss Kaninna arrives as a potent force of punk and powerA proud Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirendali woman, Miss Kaninna is a Naarm-based First Nations artist, hailing from Lutriwita/Tasmania. Making waves with her breakout debut single ‘Blak Britney’ in May 2023, the rapper/singer/songwriter has been on a meteoric rise, earning a spot on the 2025 Rolling Stone Australia Awards long list for Best New Artist.
Raised on the shores of Bruny Island, Miss Kaninna has been commanding stages from a young age, carrying forward the storytelling of her ancestors and fearlessly bringing them into the present. Her art serves as a powerful expression of her experiences as a young Black woman on stolen land, drawing from her rich cultural heritage and paths paved before her by her Matriarchs.
Warming up the stage with a short but full power opening set is local rapper Yung Milla. He’s Young. Hot. Formidable. This emerging rapper has already accrued a throng of staunch fans online and on the streets of Darwin’s southern suburbs.
Yung Milla is a loud and proud member of the Marranungu people, who are the traditional land owners of the Litchfield National Park in the NT. He’s a gun with his pen having written, recorded and released four songs independently all of which have gained the attention of triplej unearthed. Yung Milla was just awarded the NT Song of the Year Hip Hop / Rap category for his track Bossin’.
