Darling, I Don't Dream of Labour - Prototype

Inspired by the creative minds like Tricia Hersey, Rest is Restance the wise words of James Baldwin and the several ancestors who fought for our labour rights in Alberta and abroad! At Recess Calgary we value rest, play and our tapping our into our creativity. Our tagline is 'take a break'.

Rationale for an event:

Recess Calgary is looking at different ways to find rest. We wanted to identify a way to honour what it could mean to take a break. To take time to reflect on our relationship to labour, to celebrate our labour, to resist labour and to reexamine how we might be creative with our labour. On Labour Day we'll reexamine our labour by celebrating the value of rest! Rest and labour are intrinsically linked.

Since 2018, Recess Calgary exists to inspire people and Calgary a more playful and imaginative city!

1. A fun opportunity for adults to play their favourite childhood games from the playground, summer camp and gym class.

This is where nostalgia meets novelty, Play the games as if you were on the playground, gym class or summer camp. Each class is different from the next, create connections and take a wellness break. No playground bullies - we strive to make each Recess class a fun environment for all!

2.A more playful city where people can come together to reimagine public spaces for creativity, connection and delightful disruption

We convene and facilitate as an art practice to create conversations about the public space, city building and commemeration of our past for playful futures!
