It's Mr. Poe's birthday, and to celebrate America's master of the macabre, Serpent's Key steps into a weekend of darkness.
Unveil your shadows in a safe and accepting atmosphere as we share, listen, and celebrate at our Dark Poetry open mic on the birthday of Edgar Allan Poe. All guests are welcome to the Serpent's Key to take the mic and read their own work or a favorite dark poem. Poetry, prose, music, musings and movement are all welcome as we revel in the inspiration of others.
There will be door prizes themed after the work of Mr. Poe, and snacks/mocktails!
Please limit your reading to 3-4 minutes per person, so everyone can share. If there are more spots at the end, you may take another time slot. This event is free to attend.
Open Mic will be hosted by published poetess Rissa Miller, a Serpent's Key regular. Rissa has been writing her entire life and her first poems were published in a childrens' anthology when she was in 3rd grade. By 5th grade, she had fully fallen for the dark side of the literary world. Rissa has worked as a Literary Coordinator at Baltimore's Poe House Museum, was an editor at The Baltimore Sun, and was formerly a Vice Pres in the Maryland Writers Association. It is her deep belief that words have the power to change the world.
