The art work of Tania L. Yager is a whimsical smattering of interdisciplinary mediums that are heavily influenced by dark fantasy, myths and legends. 3D art sculpture using recycled materials and found objects makes up part of her visual explorations. This is usually achieved by combining natural and locally sourced objects such as branches, acorns, seedpods, and recycled fabrics with much of the sculpting being done with paper clay. Paper mache, various wood elements, and acrylics are also incorporated. The other portion of Tania's work often consists of paper art and shadow creation. Carefully cut black paper and 3D objects are thoughtfully combined to generate moving shadow projections that tell various fantastical narratives. She utilizes all of these materials to generate characters and scenes that focus on breathing life into inanimate objects. As a puppeteer Tania is obsessed with motivating materials toward kinesthesis and story. Many of her favorite narratives come from the dark solstice and Christmas legends from Central and Eastern Europe. This combination of art and story helps make mystery and magic for her audiences, as well as giving them unique experiences rarely seen before."
Tania L. Yager is a visual/performance artist who is making strides to expand art and puppetry in the North County region. Founder of Twisted Heart Puppetworks, Tania has written, performed, and directed over 20 original puppet plays in the past 7 years and fabricated her own dolls and puppet creations. She has worked to educate local school children in 3D arts as well as perform in theater cabarets across the US. A fan of Shadow Theater, she has successfully branched out into the realm of film and opera with her 2020 Catapult Opera project HANJO-winner of the Innovation Award. Tania, a world traveler, is inspired by dark fantasy, myths, and legends and uses these to inform much of her work. From stunning mounted German inspired Krampus heads to Christmas ornaments depicting the dark Welsh spirits of Yule, Tania puts a touch of whimsy in every piece she makes.
