Dark Intelligence
About this Event
Issue
Questions about contemporary artificial intelligence (AI) — regardless the iteration, current and envisaged, including a postulated “singularity” — are not principally about the technology. They are principally about the essential meaning of human intelligence and, more deeply, the total human person. They imply a forgottenness, perhaps even an abandonment, of the primordial meaning of “to be” that risks steering efforts to develop AI systems onto less than optimal trajectories.
Response
This 5-hour workshop lays out the case to supersede the “artificial intelligence” sobriquet with “dark intelligence” to offset presuppositions belying the technology and coinciding with a forgottenness of being (Seinsvergessenheit). A phenomenological perspective is enacted. The project (a) reduces AI to its fundamental statistical processes, including the possibility of a “singularity” allowed by the statistical formulation of entropy (S = k ln W), (b) exhibits the factical meaning of human intelligence and its correspondence to the pre-thematic comprehension of being (“is”) (Seinsverständnis), (c) underscores the categorical differences between human intelligence and AI, and (d) presents the case to replace the AI moniker to overcome misconceptions about the technology and clarify the way it is thought.
Key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Clearer understanding of artificial intelligence (AI)
- Clearer understanding of human intelligence
- Discernment of the difference between AI and human intelligence
- Improved efficacy developing AI systems
Teaching Method
Sigetic training and seminars subscribe to the teaching principles extended upon by the US Army Common Faculty Development - Instructor Course (CFD- IC). The CFD-IC combines the outcomes of the Army Basic Instructor Course (ABIC), the Small Group Instructor Training Course (SGITC), and the Faculty Development Program Phase 1 (FDP1). It is the “gold standard” of adult learning. Its methodology — which includes discovery sessions, knowledge checks, and exercises — enables clients to optimize learning fast. The author obtained his CFD-IC certification in 2019.
Joaquin Trujillo PhD — Sigetic CEO/CTO — is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Operations Officer and holds a PhD in Sociology from Florida International University (FIU). He regularly coaches US military and Special Forces in the team, leadership, communicative, and high reliability processes ingredient to successful intelligence and psychological operations during war and evaluates their performance against those variables. His scientific work exhibits basic human phenomena — including thinking, intelligence, conscientiousness, common sense, and teams — in advanced technologies and high risk systems. It also discerns the cognitive operations commonly specified for computational simulation (AI).
