Inspired by a current exhibition and in partnership with Dasia Hood.
The Dark & Divine R&B Figure Drawing Session at Harvey B. Gantt Center is the second session of the Dark & Divine figure art series. R&B Figure Drawing invites participants ages 18+ to an elevated drawing experience featuring partially clothed Black figure models and sonic spirit master Xāi. Enjoy a guided drawing experience led by instructor Ida Mae that positions Black models in artistic, cultural, and divine expressions and staging.
This experience is a complement to the Gantt’s newest exhibition, Becoming The Sea: Black Rock Senegal x Harvey B. Gantt Center . Guests of the workshop are encouraged to visit the exhibition during their visit.
The event is free and open to the public, ages 18+ to participate. RSVP includes art supplies or you can bring your own. Must be 18+ to register. Proof of age will be required to enter the space.
About Dark & Divine
Dark & Divine is a collaborative artist model experience designed and developed by figure model and creative entrepreneur Dasia Hood for the Black community.
The experience makes appreciation and expressions of Black nudity and representations of Black bodies in art accessible through education and exposure. Using figurative art and creative writing as vehicles, Hood collaborates with artists and arts organizations to produce a figurative series, including workshops, discussions, and exhibitions.
