Daring to be Frida | A fashion project inspired by Frida Kahlo

"Daring to be... Frida" is the fashion project by the Italian fashion designer, Susi Sposito, in collaboration with the photographer, Alessandro Tarantino. A celebration of our diversity and uniqueness as human beings, in a journey to discovering our identity.

Everyone can be an artwork. Inspired to the life and work of Frida Kahlo, this innovative fashion project promotes the exploration and acceptance of our diversity as unique beings. Gender, class, race, sexual orientation, gender identity... A symbol of personal growth through the acceptance of all aspects of our identity. Because it is only through self-acceptance that we can truly become ourselves and celebrate our differences. Everyone is unique, thus everyone can be an artwork in their uniqueness.

The project began in Italy in 2016 with the name "Il coraggio di essere Frida" (Daring to be Frida), inviting people of all ages, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural background to take a leap of faith and expose their essence in a unique photoshoot. The shots were taken by the photographer Alessandro Tarantino with clothes designed by the fashion designer Susi Sposito. This led to an exhibition in January 2020 at the Museo Civico Filangieri. The event was covered by some of the main media outlets and press in Naples and southern Italy and had amazing success. Due to Covid-19, future exhibitions had to be paused but we now have the pleasure to bring the exhibition to Brighton (UK) starting from the 1st May 2023.

Opening Event

We are starting our month of celebrations on the 1st May 2023, with an opening event involving an exhibition of the photographs from our previous casting and photoshoot in Naples (Italy) for the event "Il coraggio di essere Frida" (Daring to be Frida). The event will begin at 1pm and the exhibition will be at our space until the 31st May 2023. This is also to mark the opening of our new retail space where the Suited Apparel collection will be available to purchase for the first time. New Casting

12th - 14th May 2023 we are organising a new photoshoot on the second weekend of May 2023, where people who are selected will take part in a photoshoot involving special designs from the Suited Apparel collection. The photo series will then be available to view at our next exhibition later in the year. The casting for the photoshoot is open now.
