La clôture de la rétrospective « Les Diasporas intimes de Keith Lock »

Après des projections toute la semaine à la Cinémathèque québécoise et à La Métropolitaine, assistez à un programme de courts métrages réalisés par Keith Lock et qui soulignent son engagement profond envers le Quartier chinois de Toronto et la diaspora chinoise au Canada. En ouverture de programme, un documentaire retraçant son retour sur le site de Buck Lake, cinquante ans après le tournage de son film culte « Everything Everywhere Again Alive. »

La rétrospective des Diasporas intimes de Keith Lock

Présenté du 25 au 30 mai 2026 par Panorama-cinéma et la Cinémathèque québécoise, en collaboration avec le Miao Collective, la Fondation JIA, le Festival Accès Asie et Tënk Canada, Les diasporas intimes de Keith Lock propose d’aller à la découverte du premier cinéaste sino-canadien, auteur d’une œuvre qui s’étend des années 1960 à aujourd’hui. Ancien assistant de Michael Snow et de Claude Jutra, Keith Lock est l’auteur d’une œuvre inédite au Québec et profondément hétérogène, alliant des démarches expérimentales et documentaires, mises au service de la fiction et même de l’animation, avec en tête, toujours, l’importance de capter ce qui permet à l’existence communautaire d’émerger, de persister.

Chaque projection sera suivie d’une séance de questions-réponses avec le cinéaste. La séance du jeudi sera suivie d’une discussion entre Keith Lock et trois cinéastes de la compétition Asiate en court du Festival Accès Asie : Rui Ting Ji, Gavin Seal et kimura-byol lemoine. Un atelier de création avec Keith Lock (gratuit, en anglais), aura lieu le samedi à la Maison du Quartier chinois de Montréal.

Dans le cadre du Mois du patrimoine asiatique, la rétrospective ainsi que le dossier d’accompagnement de la revue (à venir le 25 mai) ont été préparés par Audrey Jiang (Miao Collective) et Mathieu Li-Goyette (Panorama-cinéma), avec l’appui du Conseil des arts du Canada, du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec et du Conseil des arts de Montréal.

The closing of the “Keith Lock’s Intimate Diasporas” retrospective

Following screenings throughout the week at the Cinémathèque québécoise and La Métropolitaine, join us for a program of short films directed by Keith Lock highlighting his deep commitment to Toronto’s Chinatown and the Chinese diaspora in Canada. The program opens with a documentary chronicling his return to the Buck Lake site, fifty years after the filming of his cult classic “Everything Everywhere Again Alive.”

Keith Lock’s Intimate Diasporas Retrospective

Presented May 25–30, 2026, by Panorama-cinéma and the Cinémathèque québécoise, in collaboration with the Miao Collective, the JIA Foundation, the Festival Accès Asie, and Tënk Canada, Keith Lock’s Intimate Diasporas invites viewers to discover the first Chinese-Canadian filmmaker, whose body of work spans from the 1960s to the present day. A former assistant to Michael Snow and Claude Jutra, Keith Lock is the creator of a body of work that is unique in Quebec and deeply diverse, combining experimental and documentary approaches in the service of fiction and even animation, always with the primary goal of capturing what allows community life to emerge and endure.

Each screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker. Thursday’s screening will be followed by a discussion between Keith Lock and three filmmakers from the Asiate en court competition at the Accès Asie Festival: Rui Ting Ji, Gavin Seal, and kimura-byol lemoine. A creative workshop with Keith Lock (free, in English) will take place on Saturday at the Maison du Quartier chinois de Montréal.

As part of Asian Heritage Month, the retrospective and the accompanying magazine feature (coming May 25) were prepared by Audrey Jiang (Miao Collective) and Mathieu Li-Goyette (Panorama-cinéma), with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
