Cloud Tree Gallery is pleased to present an evening of Polish jazz and improvised music featuring Danny Kamins + Olbrzym I Kurdupel, Atlas Maior, and Morales/Chou/Trammell.
Olbrzym I Kurdupel (the giant and the runt) is a Polish improvisational/jazz duo consisting of Marcin Bozek (electric bass) and Tomasz Gadecki (tenor saxophone) from Gdynia/Gdansk, Poland. Joint music-making allows them to fulfill themselves artistically. In improvisation, they feel free and unrestrained by anything. Their playing is saturated with emotions, which lead them into widely varying musical stylistic regions.
Danny Kamins is a saxophonist based out of Houston, TX, specializing in jazz and improvised music. Musicians he has performed/recorded with include Vinny Golia, Jeb Bishop, Sandy Ewen, Paulina Owczarek, Motoko Honda, Damon Smith, Luke Stewart, Taylor Rouss, Alvin Fielder, Ra Kalam Bob Moses and NewMusic groups Relative Dissonance, Le Train Bleu, Loop 38 and Transitory Sound and Movement Collective. In addition to touring extensively and internationally, he runs the jazz program at Rice University.
Atlas Maior (Joshua Thomson, alto saxophone and Josh Peters, Oud) which makes original music informed by jazz, Arab, Turkish, and Latin American traditions.
Hometown favorites Joelle Simone Morales (bassoon) and Henna Chou (cello) in a trio with San Francisco based Marshall Trammell, a percussionist and self-styled Music Research Strategist.
