Daniel Sommer / Arve Henriksen / Johannes Lundberg: “Sounds & Sequences”:
“…beautiful vast open spaces and an enduring love that would overcome all challenges.
A magnificent piece of music.” – UKvibe
Eric Chenaux:
“Where Chenaux really differs from any of them is in his lysergic tonal explorations, behind his honey-dipped vocals and baffling assortment of bent guitar notes, aquatic and forever morphing” – The Quietus
“A singer and songwriter possessed of angelic sweetness and clarity accompanying himself with largely improvised, visceral guitar textures that seem intent on undermining and obscuring his own songs. It’s the need to communicate tussling with the urge to obfuscate; lucidity versus opacity; form against chaos.” – The Wire

In English:
Two outstanding acts take over ALICE this September for an evening of generous improvisation and charming musical experimentation. Danish drummer Daniel Sommer presents his critically acclaimed project Sounds & Sequences alongside Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Swedish bassist Johannes Lundberg, while Canadian singer, songwriter and guitarist Eric Chenaux brings his songs to the stage, blending jazz, adventurous guitar explorations and velvety crooner vocals.
Daniel Sommer / Arve Henriksen / Johannes Lundberg: “Sounds & Sequences”
Sounds & Sequences is the second chapter of Daniel Sommer’s Nordic Trilogy, bringing together three distinctive voices from the Nordic improvised music scene. Drawing on jazz, chamber music, ambient and free improvisation, the trio creates a shared musical language where acoustic instruments and electronics open up new sonic possibilities. Arve Henriksen’s trumpet, voice and electronics, Johannes Lundberg’s double bass and Daniel Sommer’s drumming move between simple melodies, open improvisation and rhythmic passages. The album has received widespread international acclaim and was named Best Album of 2024 by Danish jazz magazine JazzNyt.

Eric Chenaux
Over the years, Canadian musician Eric Chenaux has developed a singular musical language where jazz, songwriting, improvisation and his velvety crooner voice come together in deeply original and disarmingly charming ways. Chenaux is renowned for coaxing extraordinary sounds from his guitar, at times making it resemble a space-age organ or an entire brass section, while at others launching into freely improvised guitar excursions. On his new album “Delights Of My Life”, melodic songwriting, unconventional arrangements and experimental sound worlds meet in close musical interplay.
