About this Event

As artist in residence at ONCA since 2022, Daniel has been painting prolifically in his studio below the gallery, but as ONCA winds down and prepares to close its door, Daniel is moving to a new studio. Coupled with new developments in his practice it’s time for a fresh start and Daniel is excited to offer people the chance to acquire some of his paintings at heavily discounted prices to mark the end of this particular chapter.

The sale of works will support Daniel to continue to develop his practice and pursue projects focusing on engagement with Deaf schools through analogue photography. At the same time, guaranteeing buyers a bargain!

On Friday 12th July, 6 - 9pm ONCA gallery and Daniel’s studio will be open for visitors to browse his collection over a glass of wine and hear about his plans for the future.

For those that can’t make this event, Daniel will be at the gallery the following day - Saturday 13th July for viewings by appointment only.

A BSL interpreter will be present with Daniel on both days. If you have any questions or need assistance booking an appointment please contact [email protected]

About the artist

Daniel J.G. is a self-taught artist, who’s paintings focus on the beauty and solace of the natural world. Daniel has spent countless hours studying the colours, shapes, textures and lighting of landscapes. He draws on all these visual references and the emotions they evoked to produce colourful abstract paintings rich in meaning. Through his painting Daniel aims to share his story, highlight the positive impact being in nature can have on mental health, and connect with people through the visual language of art rather than spoken words.

Daniel’s solo exhibition, Inner Landscapes, ONCA (2021) showcased paintings made during lockdown. He was subsequently selected for Phoenix’s studio award for underrepresented artists (2021-22). In 2022 Daniel was awarded DYCP funding from Arts Council England. In 2023 his solo exhibition during Artists Open Houses (AOH) was shortlisted for the AOH Brighton Fringe award. He was also awarded an artist development bursary by a-n (Artist Network) and commissioned to exhibit at Flarewave, a festival celebrating Deaf art & culture in the UK. In 2024 he received Arts Council Funding for an ongoing R&D project: ‘Deafness & Mental Health - Intergenerational Conversations’ which will see him expand his painting practice to incorporate analogue and cameraless photography. He is supported by ONCA, Outside In & Shape Arts.
