About this Event
P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome Daniel Burstein to celebrate his book, — the true story of Sergeant William (Bill) Shemin, child of immigrants, an American soldier who fought in World War I. Dedicated, fearless, and brave, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously in 2015 by President Barack Obama. The book is a story of heroism and simultaneously a story of a century-long struggle against anti-Semitism and racism.
Along with a discussion and audience Q&A, Burstein will also be signing copies of The Ivy Hero.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dan Burstein’s grandmother, Leah Shemin Burstein, was World War I hero William Shemin’s first cousin. Dan’s father, Leon Burstein, got his first job as a teenager working in Bill Shemin’s greenhouse in the Bronx. Dan met Bill on several occasions, including once as early as when he was five years old.
Dan is the author of 15 nonfiction books, including several New York Times bestsellers, and is managing partner of Millennium Technology Value Partners, a venture capital firm, where he worked on early-stage investments like Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, and Alibaba when those companies were private. The Ivy Hero is his first book for children. He is a father and a grandfather.
Dan’s books have sold over 5 million copies and been translated into more than 30 languages. Through the course of his journalistic and authorial career, his work has been published in media from the New York Times to Rolling Stone and he has appeared on interview programs from Oprah! to the History Channel to CNBC.
A small sampling of his prescient prior titles would include: Road Warriors: Dreams and Nightmares along the Information Highway, one of the first books about the internet and the digital revolution (1990s), Big Dragon, a widely praised book about the future of China published in 1998 and laying out many potential events that have since come to pass; Secrets of the Code the world’s best-selling guidebook to Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code; Blog! an early 2000s era book about the birth of social media, and Secrets of the Tattooed Girl, an Edgar-nominated book about the life, times, and thinking of Stieg Larsson, the author of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
