About this Event
Together we'll cultivate deeper connection with mind, body, spirit, and your highest Self. This workshop will be appropriate for both new attendees and those who have attended prior Dancing with our Parts workshops -- facilitators will adapt the content to the group.
We all have parts of ourselves that we wish would let up. (Looking at you: inner critic, people pleaser, procrastinator…etc). Many of us try to release, cut ties with, or muzzle these parts. And yet often, what we resist persists. IFS teaches us to build a new relationship with these parts based in compassion and collaboration. It turns out, when we compassionately witness these parts, they tend to chill out. We are excited to pair IFS with the potency of group experience, embodiment, and dance practices.
In this workshop, we will learn what parts are and how to identify them, learn about and connect with our "Self energy" (compassionate witness, higher self, etc.) and slowly begin to communicate with a chosen protective part through meditation and movement. As we learn about parts’ fears and protective intentions for us, they come to soften and allow Self to lead more often in our lives. We will be held in the compassionate witness of a partner, and consolidate the experience through journaling and verbal reflection in pairs and in the larger group.
Participants from past events shared:
“I experienced such profound connection with my parts and couldn't have done it without such a safe container that you and all the wonderful participants held. “
“Thank you for a beautiful experience. It was such a powerful day and lovely community connection that will stay with me for a very long time.”
“My parts and I are not at war anymore…It felt so good to lay down the armor.”
Please note:
Though this workshop may have healing impacts and draws on IFS, this is not therapy or a substitute for therapy. This is a gentle and consent-based practice; “Slow is fast” – we move at the speed of trust and our nervous systems. See our FAQ's below.
Curious about IFS? Here’s a brief introduction:
Facilitator Bios:
Kelin Hall, LCSW has been co-creating containers to heal trauma for the past 10 years as an IFS and EMDR therapist. Her approach is shaped by somatic and decolonizing frameworks. Her own journey has been lifted by the healing power of movement (Discipline of Authentic Movement, Contact Beyond Contact, Brazilian Zouk, Ecstatic Dance), song, and community. She has enjoyed integrating her personal and professional healing paths in these workshops. This will be her seventh time facilitating this workshop -- it's been inspiring and touching to witness it's power.
Kellyn Jackson, BC-DMT, LCPC, is a community builder and dance artist. She has completed IFS level 1, and uses it as a dance/movement therapist with individuals and groups. She also teaches contact improvisation, a dance form centered around nonverbal communication and embodied consent. Her trauma-informed approach prioritizes accessibility, inclusivity, and nervous system attunement to create spaces where people feel safe enough to take Self-led risks.
