Aida Diop – Dance Artist & Cultural Ambassador

Aida Diop is a celebrated dance artist with over 15 years of experience in traditional West African dance, specialising in Traditional Sabar dance rhythms of Senegal and Djembe dance rhythms from across West Africa. Her work is a powerful fusion of cultural heritage and contemporary expression, rooted in storytelling, spiritual connection, and community empowerment through movement and live music.

Originally from the Lebou fishing village of Ouakam in Dakar, Senegal, Aida began dancing at a young age, deeply immersed in the rhythms and traditions of her community. A proud single mother, she brings authenticity, resilience, and passion to every space she enters.
Since relocating to the UK in 2010, Aida has become a dynamic force in London’s dance scene, leading weekly African dance classes that celebrate cultural identity and foster inclusive community engagement. Her workshops and performances have reached audiences across the UK and internationally, including Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and Abu Dhabi, where she recently taught resident students at Abu Dhabi University.

Aida’s international recognition continues to grow. She was invited to teach at the prestigious Sorano Theatre in Dakar in both 2023 and 2024 by renowned artistic director Pape Moussa Sonko. Her recent showcase with students at the Senegalese Embassy in London further highlights her commitment to cultural education and exchange.
She regularly leads workshops and cultural exchanges in Malmö, Paris, and Amsterdam, and performs throughout the UK in collaboration with various arts organisations.
