Contact Improvisation Weekend workshop with Francisco Borges and Alexa Papa
26.-27.04.2025 in Aarhus
WHAT MATTERS?
What is it, we deeply want?
Personally, what we want for ourselves and for others is a time and space where every-body is not only respected, but supported and empowered. Empowered to allow what is authentic, honest and transparent, to reveal what is already present. From this place of embodied awareness, extended care and mutual support, we want to move and unfold.
That might sound ambitious or vague, maybe even dreamy, but the practice is very pragmatic, rigorous and precise. The practice is not about indulging only in what feels good on the surface. The practice offers an experience of offering support and actually being supported back by another. The practice requires a willingness to trust, a deep embodied listening and a readiness to act.
We are interested in engaging and witnessing each other engage in real dances, real meetings. Spontaneous physical dialogues that could be called performances yet without all the extra weight/stress the word usually holds. We will make space for that. Besides, we offer different exercises to open the physical and the attentional body out of the normative social conditioning into the open field of contact improvisation, releasing into that most wild and caring form of play.
WHO WE ARE:
Francisco "Fran" Borges [PT] Born in the Azores islands, Francisco is a researcher of consciousness, ethics, movement and the beauty-full strangeness of life. He's a contact improvisation practitioner, event organizer & facilitator, moving phisolopher, performer, videographer, ecosomatic artist, poet, musician, freediver & meditation guide. His work is deeply inspired by Sasha Dodo & Dolores Dewhurst-Marks [TOWARDS: Center for Practice and Research of Contact Improvisation]; Geraldin Acevedo [Many] No An & the Human Garden [Performative Pratices for Nature, as Nature]; Nita Little, Ray Chung, Anjelika Doniy, Ekaterina Basaeleva [Body that Can]; Marco Solimeni [Aikido]; Sasha Bezrodnova [Authentic Movement & OceanDance]; Bari Kim; Silent Contact Retreat; Zen, Dzogchen, Vipassana
Alexa Papa [RO/PT] Dancer, visual artist CI facilitator & organizer, interested in the inner-outer dialogue, body, awareness, the relation to space and the environment. Her first encounter with Contact Improvisation (CI) happened around 8 years ago, which allowed a new space and understanding of the body and movement. CI became the main focus in her life, a constant and continuous research in practice. In 2022 she graduated FAIIC at Instável – Centro Coreográfico, a program focused on Creation and Choreography. Her ongoing interest is presence and authenticity as a moving relational being as well as the collaboration of creative arts, integrating painting and media art into her movement research and nature interactions. Along the way, she’s grateful to have crossed paths and learn from/with many inspiring Contact Improvisation teachers, namely: Nita Little, Ray Chung, Ekaterina Basaeleva [Body that Can], Sasha Dodo & Dolores Dewhurst-Marks Rita Vilhena, Vega Luukkonen & Hugh Stanier, Itay Yatuv & Anjelika Doniy & Others
