Women's Theatre Collective is holding auditions for Dancing at Lughnasa! This extraordinary play is the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. We meet them at the time of the festival of Lughnasa, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing. Their spare and strictly Catholic existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large.
Dancing at Lughnasa is a memory play narrated by the grown-up Michael, son of sister Christina. He remembers a summer he spent with the sisters in their shared cottage in the small village of Ballybeg when he was 7-years-old. During the summer, the sisters’ elder brother Jack returns from a 25-year mission in Uganda and Michael’s unreliable father Gerry makes an appearance.
