Dances of Destiny: A Night of Live Orchestra Music
About this Event
More than 100 musicians — strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion — fill a soaring Los Feliz church with the full sound of a live symphony orchestra. The LLS Orchestra invites you to an evening of music so vivid it practically dances, performed in one of the most striking and unexpected concert settings in Los Angeles.
The program is charged with drama, passion, and fate. There's the sun-soaked brilliance of Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol, a dazzling showcase of Spanish color and virtuosic fireworks. The eerie wit of Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre, where at the stroke of midnight Death himself takes up his fiddle. The mischief and sparkle of Rossini and Respighi's La Boutique Fantasque, a 19th-century toy shop brought roaring to life. And the devastating beauty of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet — some of the most emotionally powerful music ever written, tracing the arc from young love to tragedy. It's an evening of romance, mischief, and heartbreak that stays with you long after the final note.
And this time, there's something more. Throughout the concert, Music Director Simona Grossi will introduce each piece from the front of the orchestra — sharing the stories behind the music, the drama in every phrase, and the details that bring these works to life. Whether it's your first orchestra concert or you've been listening for decades, these brief introductions offer everyone a way in, and a way deeper. You won't just hear the music. You'll understand it.
Come early, linger late, and make a night of it. 🎻
