DanceNerd Lecture Series 2022-2023An Exploration of Dance Notation - How do we hold a moment in time?
Chris Harris has always been intrigued by the ephemeral nature of dance and choreography. A performance exists for a moment as an interaction between the dancers and the audience and then is gone. Video can capture some aspects, but as any dancer who has ever tried to learn from video alone can attest, much is lost in translation. Is there a way to record not only the movements of a dance but all aspects of a performance from the spacing, to the emotions, to the phrases? This question has driven Chris’ exploration of dance notation. As an interdisciplinary artist Chris has created a plethora of works to try and capture, record, and reproduce the intangible parts of performance. Join us for a journey through the history of dance notation and Chris’ own approach to the topic. You may see some familiar movement along the way.
CCD will once again offer a series of DanceNerd Lectures. Each DanceNerd Lecture will include a reception at 7:00pm, and then the lecture will be 7:30-9:00pm. Tickets are only $10 (plus ticketing fee) for each lecture. Join us and fill your brains with exciting dance knowledge! Lectures are open to Students of all ages!
