Join us at Museum of Tulsa History for Frontier Dance Fling: Oklahoma's Early Social Dances, an evening dedicated to learning, dancing, and celebrating the dances that were the heart of frontier life. From spirited couple’s dances to playful group formations, this event will highlight the unique charm and history of three iconic dances: the polka, the quadrille, and play party dances.
June- The Polka: A Spirited Frontier Favorite
Kick off this series with the lively polka, a dance that swept across the frontier with its infectious energy and joyful twirls. Learn the basic steps and turns of this beloved couple’s dance, which was a staple at social gatherings, barn dances, and community celebrations. Discover how the polka’s upbeat tempo brought people together and provided a much-needed escape from the hardships of frontier life.
July- The Quadrille: Elegance on the Frontier
In July, step into the refined world of the quadrille, a group dance that combined structure, grace, and social interaction. Often performed in square formations, the quadrille was a popular dance at formal gatherings and a chance for settlers to showcase their manners and coordination. Learn the patterns and movements of this dance, and experience how it fostered camaraderie and connection among neighbors.
August- Play Party Dances: Fun for All Ages
