Step into the rhythms of the Carpathian Basin with our Dancehouse (Táncház) Series — a joyful celebration of traditional folk dancing connecting people through movement, music, and community!
🌍 This Event’s Theme
We’ll explore Hungarian dances from what is today part of Romania, focusing on the Felcsík region of Székelyföld.
The dance house will take place in a joyful carnival atmosphere, enriched with playful activities and lots of fun. We are preparing a festive event where participants can enjoy a traditional masked and costumed celebration.
The programme begins with warm-up, followed by the dance teaching. This is complemented by a creative craft workshop, during which participants will make carnival masks and Ilyés, the traditional carnival puppet. After the crafting session, everyone can put on their costumes and the real carnival celebration begins — with music, dancing, and cheerful moments.
👣 Meet Your Instructor: Panka Herman
I have loved dancing since childhood. I spent several years dancing in an amateur folk dance group, then worked as a professional dancer for 21 years as a member of the Maros Folk Ensemble in Transylvania. For me, folk dance is not only a profession but a way of life. When we moved to England, dance remained an important part of my life. Together with my former husband, we organised dance houses and folk dance courses, and for several years we also led the Szeredás Folk Dance Group in London. In 2015, I started the first children’s dance house in London at the Hungarian Cultural Centre (Szent István House). The programme ran on a monthly basis and I successfully led it until 2020.

The Hungarian Táncház method, inscribed by UNESCO in 2011 on the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices, is a living tradition where everyone can experience folk dance firsthand — not through performance, but through participation.
From energetic circle dances to intricate couple movements, every Dancehouse invites you to learn, move, and have fun together.
Our sessions start with a gentle warm-up and feature simple, accessible movements suitable for all ages and abilities.
