Dance at the Plaza: Shuffle (Beginner) with Joz & Raymond

Class Description:

Shuffle originated in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1980’s and was danced in the club scene to Electronic Dance music. Over the years shuffling has taken the world by storm from clubs to festivals. Shuffling is known to be inclusive, liberating, spiritual, free of judgment, and true expression. Shuffle Dance connects you with the music you love in a special way. In this class students will learn basic shuffle skills like the running man, and the T-step, while also learning to incorporate their own stylistic movements. 

Suggested Footwear:

Sneakers with a smooth sole.

All Fitness Court classes are outdoors at Civic Center / UN Plaza - 3537 Fulton Street, San Francisco, CA 94102. Located between Hyde Street and Market Street.

Meet Your Instructor

Joz (she/her) started dancing in high school with a school sponsored company that exposed her to a wide variety of styles. From cultural, contemporary, character, hip hop, jazz, and more, dance held a special spot in her heart. With renewed inspiration and the support of close friends she relaunched her dance journey with an emphasis in Shuffle in 2024.

Meet Your Instructor

Raymond (he/him) is a San Francisco native who began his journey as a raver, finding in the rave scene a safe space to express himself both artistically and emotionally. In February 2025, he was introduced to the shuffling community, where he discovered a deeper and more intimate way to connect with others and with the music. Now, he hopes to create the same kind of safe environment that once supported him, one where students can express themselves beyond the venue, foster a sense of community, and teach others the joy that dance has brought to his life.
